CCTV cameras

Camera is basic element of each CCTV system. Its quality and proper selection effects quality and usefulness of whole surveillance system. To secure optimal work conditions of camera you have to take few parameters under consideration:

- Camera type: color, black and white, day and night
- CCD sensor size (1/3" or 1/4"): parameter needed for selection of proper lens
- Horizontal resolution - defined in number of television lines, which camera is able to process
- Sensitivity: given as value of minimal light intensity on the set
- Lens steering: Video or DC
- Construction and/or housing type; box, dome, board or waterproof
- Data transmission: analog or digital
- Additional functions: BLC, AGC, ATW
- Power supply (12VDC, 24VAC, 230VAC)

Day and night cameras are type of box cameras which are designated for surveillance of sets with various lighting. Huge advantage of this camera type is that under good lighting conditions it works in color mode while under worse conditions (i.e. dusk, night) it goes into black and white mode, providing far greater sensitivity. Additional advantage of day and night cameras is possibility of using IR illuminators for lighting set (in black and white mode). We divide day and night cameras into two groups:

Most common type are "color-cut" cameras that is with electronic method of removing chrominance component (color). Keeping in mind that lack of color in image increases S/N ratio it is possible to increase AGC level without large decrease of image quality.

Second group consists of cameras with mechanical IR filter. When switching mode from color to black and white, camera removes the filter from CCD sensor. Thanks to this operation you get all the benefits of "color-cut" function and additionally work conditions in low light intensity set are improved. Cameras with mechanical IR filter excel at working with IR illuminators.

Dome cameras are available in color or black and white versions. They are well suited for surveillance of small indoor sets i.e.: small shops, bureaus or workshops. Esthetic, half spherical housing, integrated mini lens (mostly 3.6 mm), good technical parameters and good prices make those cameras popular amongst installers and users.

Board cameras have extremely small size, integrated mini lens and good technical parameters which predisposes them for discrete (hidden) surveillance. Device like that can be easily placed in small spaces like; PIR detector, miniature housing, painting. Without doubt low price and rich number of types is a big advantage of such solution.

Waterproof cameras are designated for work in hard environment conditions. Small, sealed housing (IP67), integrated mini lens as well as high resolution and sensitivity secure usefulness of those cameras even in extreme applications. Those devices are excellent for surveillance of dust laden and very moist sets (i.e. bakeries, industrial facilities, carwashes).
